Routes on the Maps

Each map in this series has 3 suggested routes of easy, medium and hard grades. Try some of the suggested routes or just adventure on your own, using these maps and routes as a guide.

Map 1: Ballater, Glen Muick, Balmoral
South West of Ballater (Ballater, Glen Muick, Balmoral). The area around Ballater, on Royal Deeside, is perfect for mountain biking and walking. This guide covers an area of the Cairngorms National Park, to the south and west of Ballater, as far as Lock Muick and Balmoral. There are tough trails with stream crossings, hard climbs and fast descents for the technical expert. Or, for a pleasant cycle, there are easier tracks too. There are magnificent views of lochs, rivers, Caledonian pine forest and mountains.

Map 2: Ballater to Cairn Leuchan & Mount Keen
Shows the high level mountain biking and hiking routes at their very best, covering 10km of trails above 2000ft by Cairn Leuchan and the 3000ft ascent of Mount Keen.

Map 3: Glen Tanar and The Deeside Way from Aboyne to Dinnet
South East of Aboyne. Trails of the Glen Tanar Estate. Also included is the Mounth Road leading to Mount Keen, and the Firmouth and Fungle Roads. There are three superb suggested routes, highlighted in colour on the map and suitable to all abilities.

Map 4: The Deeside Way from Dinnet to Cambus O'May & Ballater
This map and guide covers the Deeside Way between Dinnet and Ballater in the Cairngorms National Park. It is perfect for mountain biking and walking and includes Cambus O'May and Muir of Dinnet. There are also clearly marked trails around Loch Kinord with many routes that link to the Deeside Way. The map also covers some of the high ground just north of the Dee and includes a long classic bike ride around the Morven Loop.
