The Mountain Bike Routes in Quality Routes in the Peak District and Derbyshire

Ashford & Deepdale

Distance: 30km

Climb to Monsal Head before descending into Monsal Dale. Climb again, traverse and wait for the final descent of steep-sided Deep Dale.

Bakewell & Haddon

Distance: 10km

A good introduction for those new to mountain biking. 70% off road with no real technical problems.

Beeley Moor

Distance: 14km

A short but varied and interesting route. 50% off road.

Belper & The Chevin

Distance: 14km

Overall the route offers a good variety of terrain and a lot of added interest can be found in the old mills and the surrounding countryside. 60% off road.

Bonsall Moor

Distance: 21km

The going is generally easy but there are some long climbs. 76% off road.

Carsington Water and High Peak Trail

Distance: 30km

Altogether an unexpectedly good ride as a good chunk is on prepared bike trails.

Chatsworth West

Distance: 24km

An excellent and interesting ride with some relatively big climbs and a tricky, technical descent.

Chesterfield

Distance: 16km

A gentle start through a country park before crossing a couple of brooks. There then follows a climb and a satisfying descent to Sheepbridge before roads and cycle way bring you back to the start.

Goyt Valley from Roman Lakes

Distance: 10km

A good introduction for mountain bike beginners. 75% off road

Hayfield

Distance: 27km

A varied route between Hayfield and Mellor. Includes some good technical and stamina tests.

Holmbridge & Digley

Distance: 24km

Open hills, sheltered woods and reservoirs. Good off road sections.

Holy Moor

Distance: 26km

A figure of 8 ride exploring the farm, wood and open moorland between Chesterfield and Baslow.

Hope Valley & Edale

Distance: 23km

A route that crosses both limestone and gritstone country. Includes the very technical Cave Dale - it is not for the faint hearted and will be unrideable to most - especially as a climb which it is here.

Langsett

Distance: 31km

A fine challenging ride through the hills on the extreme north-western edge of The Peak District, covering a wide and interesting variety of rideable terrain.

Longstone Edge

Distance: 20km

A good poor weather route: the higher part of the route is fast and well surfaced with easy navigation, and the muddy sections are short.

Lower Derwent Valley

Distance: 23km

A canal towpath, enjoyable bridleways with two good descents and a road section with a steep climb.

Monyash & Longnor

Distance: 50km

An excellent ride covering some spectacular and interesting terrain. The challenge lies more in its length rather than any sustained technical difficulty.

Netherseal - Four Counties

Distance: 25km

No steep hills but the route is quite demanding as many off roads are on field boundaries - best saved for a long dry spell.

Penistone & Cawthorne

Distance: 28km

A straightforward route through attractive Yorkshire farmland on the NW edge of the Peak District.

Shirley

Distance: 18km

Mainly easy field and track riding through farmland to the west of Derby.

South Wingfield

Distance: 8km

A short and easy ride over Edge Moor and through Wingfield Park that makes for a pleasant evening or short day.

Three Shires Head and Macclesfield Forest

Distance: 35km

A demanding and memorable ride through terrain as varied and interesting as the ride itself.

Totley Moor

Distance: 17km

The route explores the region of fields, woods and open moorland on tracks and paths which vary as much as the landscape itself.

Whaley Bridge

Distance: 26km

High moorland crossings with long climbs and descents.
