Wild Boar Mountain Bike Maps & Routes

Quick Glance

This is a top mountain biking area, once you've been you are sure to be back!

The Clwyds (Clywdian Range) are a compact area of hills in North Wales. Lying to the west of Chester they are only about an hours drive from Manchester and Liverpool, 1h 20 from Stoke and 20 mins from Llandegla Trail Centre.

What to expect: hilly mountain biking on trails that are not too technical but are great fun.

Trails: There are forest tracks, peaty & grassy singletrack, wide grass tracks, farm tracks. Plenty of tough climbs and swooshing descents.

Below are three route suggestions which are marked on the map. As the maps shows all the trails and road network it is also easy to make up your own route variations.

Cilcain Blast
7.5 km / 4.5 miles
A short route that offers a good introduction to mountain biking. A long steady climb and then downhills along singletrack (tricky in places) and onto a wide track back to the lanes around Cilcain.

Archibald's Treat
21 km / 13 miles
A hilly route with good mixture of riding through woods and out on the moors. Great views - even in the woods there are good vantage points.

Clwyd Challenge
38 km / 24 miles
If you are fit and up for a few hours of classic cross country mountain biking then you should find this route a pure joy. Tough climbs - rideable if you are feeling strong but many where you may be on the brink, downhills that are not highly technical but are big fun and every changing trails and scenery.
